On July 21, 1952, the public prosecutor’s office for the Osnabrück Regional Court instituted a preliminary investigation of Bernhard Rakers, deployed as an SS NCO at the Buna/Monowitz concentration camp and elsewhere, for bodily injury resulting in death and for murder. There were three trials in total, ending in 1959 with the sentencing of the accused to life imprisonment.
