Einsatzgruppen

The Einsatzgruppen were "special units" deployed and used by the German Reich in Eastern Europe in World War II for the mass murder of civilians. Their victims were primarily the political intelligentsia, Communists, partisans, and groups regarded as "racially inferior": Jews, "Gypsies," and "antisocial elements." The perpetrators were members of the Security Police (Sipo), Gestapo, Criminal Investigation Police (Kripo), and SS Security Service (SD).
