Flossenbürg

The Flossenbürg concentration camp was opened in May 1938 near the Czech border. At first, "criminals" and "antisocial elements" were confined there, but later on prisoners from other camps were transferred to Flossenbürg. Late in the war, the concentration camp was a collection center for prisoner transports that were forced southward by the approaching Allies. Between 1938 and 1945, Flossenbürg held more than 100,000 people , of whom around 30,000 perished.
