Sonderkommando

The prisoners who had to carry the corpses of the victims out of the gas chambers to the crematoria or to pits where they were burned were members of the "special detachment," or Sonderkommando. The SS regarded the prisoners of the special detachment as persons entrusted with confidential information, and therefore killed the members of the Sonderkommando at irregular intervals.
