selections

"Selection" was the term used for culling or singling out prisoners or newly arrived deportees to Auschwitz at the "ramp." For Jews deported to Auschwitz, selection at the arrival ramp meant either transfer to the camp for slave labor or immediate death in the gas chambers. Selections also were held inside the camp. Weak and ill prisoners usually were selected at once and murdered.
